Before you begin
- Add your domain first, like
shop.example.com. See Connect your own domain. - The username and password for the account where your domain's DNS is managed.
Connect automatically
Some DNS providers can add your domain's records for you.
- In your admin, open Domains (admin page).
- Under your domain, look for Your DNS is managed by and the name of your provider.
- If you see Connect automatically, tap it.
- Sign in at your DNS provider and approve the change.
- You come back to your store. If your domain says verified, you're done with this step.
Automatic connection works for an address like shop.example.com. For a root domain like example.com, add the records yourself.
Add the records yourself
If there is no Connect automatically button, add the records by hand.
- If you see a link to open your provider's DNS settings, tap it. Otherwise sign in at your DNS provider and open your domain's DNS page.
- Add each record shown under your domain.
- In the Host or Name field, type the Host field value shown, not the full name. Most providers add your domain to it themselves, so pasting the full name adds it twice.
- Copy the Value exactly.
- We check the records automatically every few minutes. To check straight away, tap Verify now in your store.
If it didn't work
- Cancelled: nothing was changed. Tap Connect automatically again, or add the records yourself.
- Couldn't finish: if you approved the change at your DNS provider, tap Verify now. Otherwise try again, or add the records yourself.
- Verify now keeps failing: check the Host field. A message under your domain tells you if the record was saved under the wrong name.
